Baby Kit

The Baby Kit initiative began in the simplest of ways. Mahavir International was inspired to launch the Baby Kit Project after shocking revelations about newborn mortality and disease caused by unhygienic infant clothing. Women from rural and illiterate backgrounds were seen arriving at maternity facilities with their newborns wrapped in torn, filthy garments or their own “odhnis.” To help save the lives of these disadvantaged infants, we began donating baby kits to government maternity hospitals. These kits include sets of vests, diapers, caps, bed sheets, and baby covering sheets.

Our Vira members regularly visit government hospitals to distribute baby kits and provide nourishing foods and fruits to enhance the mothers’ diets.

In addition, our members conduct awareness drives to educate mothers about breastfeeding. Breast milk supplies all the necessary nutrients in the proper ratio and protects newborns against infections and diseases.

Last year, under Project Yashoda, we adopted more than 15 pregnant women from underprivileged areas, providing them with nutritional support throughout their pregnancies. Baby kits were also provided in advance before the birth of the baby to ensure that every child wears safe, hygienic clothing immediately after delivery.

Our aim: No more illnesses for women and newborns.

Yashoda Pariyojana

Poor maternal nutrition during pregnancy is a significant public health concern due to adverse consequences both for mothers and for their children. Maternal malnutrition is associated with increased risk of maternal morbidity, preterm deliveries, and small-for-gestational-age babies. Suboptimal diets, together with other factors, including early and multiple pregnancies, poverty, caste discrimination, and gender inequality, contribute to poor maternal nutrition in India.

Yashoda Pariyojna was launched with an aim to improve nutritional outcomes for pregnant women, and lactating mothers. We used to give monthly Poshan Kit which includes  nutritional food and seasonal fruits. We also provide medical care and assistance through out their pregnancy.
